| Brief History of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy The use of essential oils dates more than 3500 years to the Egyptians who used essentials extensively in religion, cosmetics, and for medicinal purposes. The Chinese and East Indian peoples used essentials oils in their Indian Ayurvedic practices for medicinal purposes. During Hippocrates era patients were treated holistically and the use of aromatherapy massage was in wide use as well. The Romans who believed hygiene was the way to promote health and vitality used essential oils daily. The Arab peoples highly valued essential oils made from frankincense and myrrh and perfected the distillation process of essential oils somewhere before 1000 AD. The Renaissance era used essential oils to help cure leprosy and other major illnesses of the time. Dr. Edward Bach, a trained pathologist and bacteriologist had astounding results with the use of flower essences. Today aromatherapy is still used extensively throughout the world for mental and physical ailments for infants, children, and adults with great success. |
